2017 KIA Sportage Awarded Highest Possible Safety Rating by IIHS

When you buy a car, there’s nothing more critical to consider than safety. Car collisions happen, and in the United States, they happen pretty often. In 2014, there were a total of 32,675 deaths in traffic collisions which equals roughly 10 deaths per 100,000 people. That’s not including the number of non-fatal collisions, most of which could have been prevented with the right safety technology.

Which is why we’re here to tell you about the Kia Sportage.

Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick Plus

A few days ago, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) announced that they were naming the Kia Sportage a Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP+). To achieve this rating, the Sportage had to achieve a rating of “good” in each of its five crash tests, and score an “advanced” or “superior” rating in their newest front crash prevention test.

This is great for Sportage owners, but if you’re looking at other Kias, don’t worry – they’re all incredibly safe. The 2016 Kia Optima has also been named a TSP+, and the Kia Soul, Sorento, and Sedona are all Top Safety Picks (TSP).

Kia is making safe vehicles

Even the Kias that did not receive top safety awards are still very safe. The Kia Forte has a good rating in every category except the small overlap front impact. And the Kia Cadenza has a good rating in every category as well, but has yet to undergo the small overlap front impact test. The Rio also received pretty good safety ratings!

To be fair, though

There are lots of cars on the Top Safety Pick list. Enough that in 2016, if you’re making unsafe cars, you might as well forget selling any of them. People have great options out there, and the affordable, reliable, and safe vehicles from Kia are just a few of them.
