Our Favorite American-Built Supercar Returns – The Ford GT

Since June of last year, Ford has been teasing the return of their legendary supercar, the Ford GT, and now they’ve released a ton of photos, some information on the engine, and a configurator for us to drool over. Check it out:

What to expect from the Ford GT

The GT is returning 50 years after its first entry into 24 Hours of LeMans in 1966, where it swept the winners’ podium, placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the race. To this day, Ford remains the only American-built supercar to win the 24 hour mega-race, and this year they’re looking to do it again.

Ford is a company known for their heavy-duty trucks – basically the opposite of supercar – but the Ford GT cuts through the air like a knife with looks that’ll leave your eyes wide, and more technology than Dexter’s Laboratory.

Here’s what we know so far

The Ford GT will come with a 3.5L EcoBoost V6 that is capable of producing more than 600 horsepower; the rear wing will adjust while driving in order to produce the most downforce, depending on your speed; the ride height can be lowered approximately 50mm at any time to improve aerodynamics; its tear drop shape is sculpted to maximize downforce and minimize drag; and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Like we said – the GT is fully packed with highfalutin race technology.

Want one?

Believe it or not, you’ll have to apply. The Ford GT will only be available in limited quantities, and Ford wants to keep their new GT exclusive. We have no idea what Ford is looking for in applicants, but we’re sure there will be some questions about income – questions, we’ll have short answers to, as well.

Have fun configuring your new Ford GT! We’ll be day dreaming in the meantime.
