Zero to Sixty: Jay Leno’s Garage – “The Batman Tumbler”

ZeroToSixty

When we launched the Leith Cars blog, our team wanted to offer unique categories that spanned a range of topics. Each day of the week generates consistent content, which includes highlighting one of our many dealerships to presenting the best blog published by our writing team. Wednesday’s writings may be the most entertaining – a nice break in the middle of the work week. Zero to Sixty brings exciting videos from across the web to your computer screen.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve focused on alternative-fuel vehicles and what can be described as “vehicular pragmatism” (wise video choices, but not necessarily fun). Well, there’s no better time for a cinematic return of exhaust burbling modified cars. The choice for today comes from the Youtube channel Jay Leno’s Garage. In it, the former Tonight Show host gets a personal look – and fun drive – in the Bat Tumbler made famous in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

The custom-built Batman Tumbler is an actual working vehicle. The prototype took approximately one year to manufacture, but the ones that followed had a quicker turn-around. During filming, the Tumbler actually performed on the streets, making jumps and reaching 90 MPH for the action-adventure movies. Seven vehicles were built, and each served a specific purpose.

Every piece of the Tumbler was built from scratch with specialists who fabricated only one piece (e.g. brakes, roll cage, accelerator). As you might imagine, it has an incredible exhaust note and sounds as powerful as it looks. What may be surprising, as we were certainly taken aback, was the Tumbler’s speed and acceleration. Within seconds of seeing the vehicle operate, it becomes readily apparent that its designers are brilliant craftsmen.

Enjoy this week’s Zero to Sixty, and we encourage you to contact us with video ideas and links to present on future editions. Have a great Wednesday.
