The 2017 Volkswagen Alltrack Wagon Debuts in NY

Are minivans and SUVs too bulky for your liking? We totally understand. That’s why we’re so excited for Volkswagen’s newest wagon: The 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack.

The Alltrack is expected to debut at the 2016 New York Auto Show this week, and go on sale in the United States next fall. A price for the Alltrack has yet to be released, but we’re guessing it won’t stray too far from the Golf Sportwagen, which starts at $22,445.

The 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack will come with one engine option, the 1.8L turbocharged 4-cylinder, which produces 170 horsepower and 199lb-ft of torque. At its launch, the Alltrack will roll onto dealerships with an automatic dual-clutch transmission only, but before long we’ll see a six-speed manual joins the ranks. Score!

Official fuel-economy ratings haven’t been released for the Alltrack, but we’re guessing it’s going to land somewhere north of 30mpg combined.

One of the Alltrack’s most exciting features is its real-time all-wheel drive. This type of system doesn’t kick in unless it detects slippage, in which case it can transfer up to 50 percent of its power to the back wheels. But under normal circumstances, the Alltrack is a front-wheel drive wagon.

This provides the best of both worlds. You’ll save gas by powering just the front wheels, and you can count on your 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack to keep you out of the mud.

It’s also equipped with hill-descent control, off-road traction control, and an off-road driving mode. We’re guessing the Alltrack will come with a towing option too, which should be capable of pulling reasonable loads with 199lb-ft of torque.

The 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack is an AWD wagon built to get you and everything you need from A to B with ease.
