It\u2019s a half-mile drag race between two evenly-matched vehicles: the Ford Focus RS and the Volkswagen Golf R. The Ford Focus overpowers the Golf R by about 50-horsepower and 60lb-ft of torque, but it\u2019s also a bit heavier. So, which one do you think wins the race?<!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-responsive embed-responsive-16by9\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/US63FbxydQ4?rel=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>We couldn\u2019t help but smile watching these two weekend-warriors battle it out. It\u2019s almost better than seeing a Bugatti and a 911 roar down the drag-strip. The exotics feel so out of reach at times, while the Volkswagen Golf R and the Ford Focus RS are so obtainable. It\u2019s like comparing competitive fencing to backyard wrestling. Fencing is a historic and honorable sport, but can it smell what the Rock is cooking?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2883\" src=\"#BLOGPATH#\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/giphy-16.gif\" alt=\"Golf R vs Ford Focus RS\" width=\"387\" height=\"290\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Green means go<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In the video you\u2019ll see that the Ford Focus RS pulls ahead of the Golf R early \u2013 that extra torque really gives it an edge off the line. The Golf R starts to close the gap with the Ford Focus RS in 5<sup>th<\/sup> gear, but it\u2019s already too late. The RS crosses the line first with the Golf R only .2 seconds behind it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2884\" src=\"#BLOGPATH#\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Screen-Shot-2016-07-25-at-10.18.04-AM-1024x523.png\" alt=\"Golf R vs Ford Focus RS\" width=\"1024\" height=\"523\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a great race, and in the end the Ford Focus RS takes 1<sup>st<\/sup> place on the podium with faster times in the 0-60 mph, the quarter-mile, and the half-mile. It\u2019s worth noting though, that the Golf R actually has a faster 0-130 mph time. Where the Ford Focus takes 23.6 seconds, the Golf R is more than a half a second quicker! Very interesting.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Two excellent vehicles<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Both of these cars look great, are incredibly fast, and really aren\u2019t too expensive. Consider this: the Ford Focus RS powers from 0-60 mph in just 4.7 seconds and starts at $35,900. The Golf R does 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds and starts at $35,650. The base Porsche Cayman, which starts at $52,600 with a manual gearbox, goes from 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds.
