Luckily, the 2017 Honda Civic is here to save the day.

Big Body Civic

The new Honda Civic Hatchback is the biggest Civic hatchback yet. It weighs just under 3000lbs, and it’s over 14ft long. That’s about one foot longer than a 1992 Honda Civic Hatchback, and roughly 1000lbs heavier. The longer wheelbase won’t help you in the turns, but it will make for a smoother, more stable ride. And that extra 1000lbs just means this civic will have better safety equipment, some powerful technology, and an excellent engine.

Two words: Turbo. Manual.

The engine in question, is the 1.5-liter turbo four cylinder. At its base, it can deliver 174-horsepower and 162 lb-ft. of torque, but what really counts is the efficiency and speed. Unfortunately, no one has tested this 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback yet, but the 2016 Honda Civic (featuring the same engine) has a 0-60 of 6.8 seconds. It’s no track car, but for a daily-driver it’s pretty good.

The 2016 Honda Civic also offers a combined MPG of 35, which equates to 31 in the city, and 42 on the highway. We haven’t seen 40+mpg Civics since the 70hp D15B8!

For our lead-footed readers

Think the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback is too slow? Don’t worry, shortly after it launches in the fall, it’ll be followed by Honda Civic Type-R. That beast is expected to make 276-horsepower, and help police departments everywhere meet their quota for tickets written each month.

If you’re interested in learning more about the Honda Civic Hatchback, keep an eye on the blog for more updates!
