This week, we’ve been covering the 2015 North American International Auto Show. There’s been so much news, we’re not even done sharing it with you. One announcement has outshone all the rest, though, and the whole auto world is buzzing about it. We’re talking about the 2017 Ford GT.
Below you’ll find our mega post from Leith Ford, linking to all the information that is currently available on the new supercar from Ford. As a bonus, here’s a gallery of some of the best photos from the Detroit Auto Show. Enjoy.
Audible gasp.
The 2017 Ford GT is a real thing that was revealed yesterday. Ford did not waste any time at the 2015 North American International Auto Show, rolling out this blue beacon on the stage in Joe Louis Arena before a raucous crowd.
Here are the bullets from the press release:
– All-new Ford GT supercar sets new standards for Ford innovation through performance with advances in light-weighting, aerodynamics and ultra-efficient EcoBoost® engine
– Ford GT features the most powerful EcoBoost production engine ever – a new twin-turbocharged Ford EcoBoost V6 producing more than 600 horsepower
– Ultra-high-performance supercar is Ford’s most extreme offering, infused with race-proven technology engineered to keep company with exotics when it goes into production in 2016
We know you want to hear more, so we’re just going to start throwing links at you because everyone is talking about this car, to the point that we almost feel bad for other automakers and their debuts.
The full press release, as well as a gallery of pictures, is over on Autoblog.
Car and Driver has a detailed breakdown of the machine and a brief Q&A with Raj Nair about the GT’s would-be competitors.
Here’s a silent video tour of the hyper car, which slow pans over pretty much every angle conceivable.
Of course everyone will be wondering if the GT is going to race at Le Mans. Discussions of this car’s racing agenda are here and here.
Ford is also looking to rekindle a passion for driving in a younger audience, which explains their close work with video game developer Turn 10 on the upcoming Forza Motorsport 6.
And finally, Jalopnik asks the hard-hitting sort of question that we expect from them.
We’ll surely be talking about this car for a long time to come (it’s not getting built until next year after all), so check back regularly for further updates.
