“Tough” and “tease” don’t usually go together in the same sentence, but for the 2017 Acura MDX the universe is making an exception.
The company plans to unveil a redesign of the SUV on March 23 at the New York International Auto Show. Why? Because people get bored. Also, the revised MDX will feature “substantial design enhancements, added luxury comfort and convenience features, and advanced new powertrain technology.”
Bet you didn’t know that, did you? Does your current MDX have substantial design enhancements and added luxury comfort? Not like this it doesn’t.
Like Apple’s products, the new MDX was designed in California (by Acura’s design studio in Torrance) and like “To Kill a Mockingbird” it will be produced in Alabama. While we don’t know precisely what it will look like, our fingers are crossed that it will look like Acura’s supercar, the NSX.
Sure, an SUV is not a supercar, but that doesn’t mean they can’t have a passing resemblance. Do you have a super good-looking member of your family that therefore technically looks a little bit like you? Same difference.
As Acura likes to remind people, the MDX is “the best-selling three-row luxury SUV of all time” (according to their press release) and Acura’s best-selling SUV. So the next time you’re about to think “three-row luxury SUV,” do yourself a favor and think Acura because you’re probably about to buy one anyway.
Have you never driven an MDX? That’s a shame. It just got a dual-clutch, 9-speed automatic transmission last year along with super handling all-wheel drive. That means it’s very efficient with fuel and better at handling in slippery road conditions.
When you’re in a full-size SUV and on ice or snow, it’s nice to know you’re not about to plow into the audience. Come on by Leith Acura to test drive one at your leisure; we’ll have you all set up so you can handle next year’s winter.
