We realize that a Toyota Prius is not the most exciting vehicle ever. It’s not loud, fast, low to the ground, or particularly sporty – but as we progress further into the 21st century, we have to make compromises for the good of our planet. And for that reason, the Toyota Prius Prime is very exciting.
The prime is packed with the latest safety, infotainment, and driving systems that everyone has come to expect in a new vehicle. What sets the Prius Prime apart, is its hybrid capabilities. The Prius Prime is a plug-in hybrid that is capable of traveling more than 600 miles on a full tank (11.3 gallons) and a full charge on its 8.8 kWh battery.
So let’s do a little math. If gas is $2 per gallon, then 11.3 gallons of gas will cost you $22.60 (11.3 x 2 = 22.6). Now we’ll add the cost of charging the 8.8-kWh battery. According to Edmunds, the national average for charging an electric car is 12 cents per kWh. That works out to just over $1 (8.8 x .12 = 1.06) for a full charge. Therefore, the total cost to “fill up” your Toyota Prius Prime will be around $23.60.
That means for every full charge/full tank, the Toyota Prius Prime will only cost you approximately four cents per mile (23.60 ÷ 600 = .04). Four pennies per mile. After driving 10,000 miles, you would have only spent $400 on fueling your vehicle. That’s incredibly efficient.
Sorry if we started to lose you with all the math, but it’s just incredible what this vehicle can do! Not only is the Toyota Prius Prime good for your wallet, it’s also great for the environment, and that’s something to get excited about. The Prius is still burning gas, but it’s much more efficient than most vehicles on the road, and incredibly affordable.
