Yesterday, writer Michael Wayland for the Detroit News posted a story with multiple quotes from the manliest CEO on earth, Mike Manley. In case you don’t know, Mike Manley is President and CEO of the Jeep brand, meaning he’s one of the few people on earth who actually knows what Jeep’s long term plans are.
Here’s what he had to say
On the next generation Wrangler, Manley had this to say: “I’m delighted in the way it’s turning out,” he said. “Not just from a styling point of view, but also from the overall (standpoint of) what a Wrangler stands for.”
When asked about the 2018 Jeep Wrangler pickup, he said: “It’s looking fantastic. Absolutely fantastic.” We can’t wait to see this.
On the upcoming midsize Patriot/Compass fusion: “The status is very much on track,” which we presume means they’re on track to debut Jeep’s newest vehicle at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.
On a smaller Jeep, Manley said: “I have a strong belief that there is the opportunity for a smaller Jeep beyond the Renegade.” Adding, “I think that opportunity lies outside (North America.)”
And finally, Manley clarified some details about the Grand Wagoneer. We don’t have a direct quote, but Wayland writes: “the upcoming Grand Wagoneer – expected in 2018 or later – will be a top-end version of the large luxury SUV, not a separate vehicle.”
In summary, Jeep is developing a Large Luxury SUV and the top trim model will be referred to as the Grand Wagoneer.
Right from the horse’s mouth
Provided that Mike Manley is a trustworthy guy, it sounds like we’ll be seeing a ton of new Jeeps in the next two years. Hopefully they’ll live up to the hype. Jeep is selling more vehicles than ever, but messing with the Wrangler and adding new models is risky business. Let’s all just hope for the best.
