Watch our He Said, She Said episode where we had the opportunity to get behind the wheel of one of the first 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedans to arrive in the Triangle.
The all-new A-Class really is something to experience, as in “Mercedes-Benz User Experience” or (MBUX). This compact Benz premium luxury sedan is smokin’ hot from the striking exterior to the luxurious interior. Mercedes-Benz brings the future of technology right to your dashboard in the new A 220 and A 220 4MATIC featuring two standard 7-inch screens with driver info behind the wheel and a second screen in the center stack for infotainment. Dual 10.25-inch screens are optional. The Mercedes-Benz A-Class is the very first Mercedes-Benz vehicle to debut the MBUX, which will eventually be available on all models.
MBUX, (say it like M-B-U-X, not “M-Bucks”) allows the vehicle to be controlled by using natural speech recognition. The system, activated when you say “Hey, Mercedes,” is listening all the time. Set the temperature where you want it, change the interior ambient lighting, change the radio station, or ask directions to the nearest sushi bar… MBUX hears your request and then makes it happen. Interact with your car like never before with this super intelligent feature. Note, there is a way to turn off the system and activate it using a steering wheel-mounted button when you want it if you prefer. A couple of worthy options to consider are the available 64-color ambient lighting, a $310 option and the head-up display that’s available for $990.
It may be a subcompact car, but the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class has plenty of room inside for all passengers, front and back. Headroom and legroom are ample for most adults, resulting in a quiet, comfortable and enjoyable ride. In back, you’ll find 40/20/40-split folding rear seats for the versatility you need. For a small car, the A-Class has a pretty good-sized trunk with a pass-through between the rear seats as the center section can be folded independently. So if you’re setting off for a day on the course or packing the car for your next vacation, the A-Class will easily hold a golf bag or a couple of regular sized suitcases with a bit of room to spare. The cargo capacity measures out to be 8.6 cu ft. Also on the inside, you’ll find the same door-mounted power seat adjusters in the A-Class that you’ll find throughout the Mercedes-Benz lineup. The new A-Class is 3 inches shorter than its platform-sharing CLA “four-door coupe” sibling.
What can’t be seen, but can be felt every time your foot hits the pedal is what lies under the hood of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. Powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine delivering 188 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque, you go zero to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds.* There is independent front suspension and multilink rear suspension, which helps even out road imperfections, on both front-drive and 4MATIC all-wheel-drive models and to top it off, the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Performance wise what sets the two A-Class models apart is front-wheel drive standard for the A 220 Sedan and 4MATIC all-wheel drive for the A 220 4MATIC Sedan.
Some fun facts to know about the all-new 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class is that all models have a panoramic glass roof, which adds to the open feeling of the cockpit. AMG Line exterior and interior accents are available on the A 220 and A 220 4MATIC. Then there’s “Mercedes Me Connect” which helps make ownership easy. You can access Remote Start or Lock/Unlock, see your vehicle status or schedule service, all from your phone. MBUX can even update its software in your driveway.
The base model for the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class is the A 220 front-wheel-drive sedan which starts at $32,500.00 MSRP, slotting below the $34K+ Mercedes CLA Compact. The other model is the A 220 4MATIC sedan starting at $34,500.00. There are of course options and packages available to make your Mercedes-Benz exactly what you desire. For instance, a 4MATIC with the AMG® Line / Night Package comes out to an MSRP of $39,330.00 which is a lot of car for under $40K.
