Located at the Virginia-North Carolina border in Alton, Virginia, you’ll find a 1,300-acre race fan’s dream. Every year spectators flock to VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) to experience racing at its finest. From professional and amateur auto racing to motorcycle racing, it’s all happening at this one-of-a-kind motorsports venue. There is much more than racing though happening at VIR. It is truly a vacation destination with casual and upscale places to eat, lodging with spectacular views and a number of amenities and activities to enjoy.
Lodging
The Lodge
There is no need to stress about how you’re going to see and do everything you want in one jam-packed day. Choose to stay overnight as many nights as you wish and make the most of your time without the rush. With a variety of lodging options available on site, 62 guest rooms to be exact, it’s easy to see just why people from all over come to VIR and make a vacation out of it. The Lodge is VIR’s onsite hotel featuring 27 rooms. Most with double beds, hardwood floors, a flat screen television and refrigerator. Walk outside the comfort of your room onto a porch overlooking part of the track.
Pit Lane Rooms
If you want to really be up close and part of all the main action, then go full throttle and choose a Pit Lane room. Here, you step right outside your room onto a shared balcony overlooking pit lane near the start/finish line. Yep, these rooms are hanging over pit lane. You heard that right. Talk about a racecar fan’s dream. It’s not just a dream though. It’s a reality at VIR.
The Villas at South Bend
If you’re looking for something with more space, VIR has that too. The Villas at South Bend include six two-story luxury villas and one lower villa. Overlooking the uphill Esses complete with double decks for entertaining, the two-story villas are 2,200 square feet of pure luxury.
An upper deck balcony off the upstairs studio suite and a patio off the junior suite just below make this a great choice for guests needing extra space. Grab that cup of coffee in the morning, step outside on the deck and enjoy a new day spent at VIR. The awnings on the decks provide all the shade you need. No matter when you’re outside, rain or shine – lots of sunshine – you’re outside in total comfort.
Dining
No vacation would be complete without good food! Good thing VIR has that covered too with dining options for everyone. For a bite to eat in the morning before you start the day or if you need a lunch break, Pagoda Grill is the perfect spot. Head over for a delicious hot dog or hamburger. If you’re looking for something quick, this is the place to go. Stop here for a mid-afternoon snack and recharge for the rest of your day.
There’s no better way to end a fun-filled day than a delicious meal. Begin at Connie’s Pub for an appetizer, then make your way to the dining room of Oak Tree Tavern for a nice, relaxing gourmet dinner. Outside seating is also available when weather permits with amazing views all around.
VIR’s got it all, leaving all others in the dust.
